Peatland Restoration Training Day Held in Cloghan, Co. Donegal.

ACRES Donegal recently hosted a successful Peatland Restoration Training Day in Cloghan, Co. Donegal, where farmers completed training for their peatland restoration Landscape Actions.

Held on a local participating farm, the event provided farmers with an opportunity to see peatland restoration measures being implemented on the ground and to gain a practical understanding of the techniques involved.

During the field demonstration, the host farmer showcased and demonstrated a range of restoration measures currently being undertaken as part of peatland restoration works, including:

• Peat plug installation

• Stone dam construction

• Ditch reprofiling

• Laying Geotextiles on areas of bare peat

Participants were able to see first-hand how these actions help to restore natural peatland hydrology, improve habitat quality, and contribute to climate and biodiversity objectives.

These peatland restoration Landscape Actions are available to Co-operation Project (CP) farmers participating in ACRES and can provide significant environmental benefits through the restoration and enhancement of valuable peatland habitats.
