Minister Heydon Announces CAP 2027 Public Consultation
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, has announced the launch of a public consultation on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027.
The consultation will be open for a four-week period, until Friday, 20 March 2026, and will provide stakeholders and members of the public with an opportunity to contribute to Ireland’s position as negotiations on the next CAP progress at EU level.
Announcing the consultation, Minister Heydon said: “The Common Agricultural Policy remains a cornerstone of European food production and rural life. It supports farm incomes, underpins food security, and plays a vital role in sustaining rural communities and delivering environmental and climate objectives.”
“As discussions on the future CAP gather pace, it is important that Ireland’s position is informed by the views and experiences of farmers, rural communities and the wider public.”
The consultation follows the publication by the European Commission in July 2025 of its legislative proposals for the EU Budget and the CAP for the period 2028–2034. These proposals represent a significant change in both the structure and funding of the CAP, and negotiations are now underway between Member States, the European Parliament and the Commission.
Submissions may be made online through the consultation questionnaire and sent to post2027capconsultation@agriculture.gov.ie. The deadline for receipt of submissions is 5.00pm on Friday, 20 March 2026.
Further details on the consultation, including the consultation questionnaire and submission process, are available on the Department’s website at: Public Consultation on the CAP Post-2027 Regulations.
